The Little Prince

Kraken Theatre Company

Colchester, UNITED KINGDOM - ENGLAND
"When I was 6 years old, I saw a magnificent picture in a book. It was a picture of a boa constrictor in the act of devouring an elephant, and after some work with a coloured pencil I succeeded in making my first drawing. My drawing number one."

The Little Prince lives on his asteroid very far away. He lives all alone until one day, a rose grows for him. Desperate to please her, but never seeming to be able to, he sets off to explore all sorts of other planets in the hope of meeting various interesting characters who might teach him how to be happy. Maybe if he grows up, he'll be able to take care of his rose?. Eventually, he lands on Earth and meets the Pilot; can he show him all the knowledge he has gained? Will the Little Prince be able to convince the Pilot to release his own inner child and feel the pure joy of life again?

Adapted from the novella by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, this show has been created by members of Kraken Theatre Company, an exciting new company that has come together through the talents and dedication of a group of drama students from the University of Essex. This is one of two shows they have at the Colchester Fringe (alongside The Creator Is Present). Previous shows include Decree of Nullity (Lakeside Studio, First Thursdays) and SpaceEater (Lakeside Theatre, Camden Fringe). Their aim for this show was to create something that is just as fulfilling for everyone in the audience, regardless of the differences that are usually considered to keep us apart. If you're a human being - whatever your age, gender, race, sexuality - we hope that you all take something from this show.

"I want you to remember something; what gives something its beauty is the thing that is not seen. The desert is beautiful because of one hidden well, like the stars are beautiful because of one rose."
