James Domestic: Poetry For People Who Think They Don’t Like Poetry!

James Domestic

Sudbury, UNITED KINGDOM
An awful lot of people – OK, most people - don’t like poetry. Well, they think they don’t like poetry because all they know is Shakespeare and the War Poets they were forced to study at school. James Domestic gets it; he didn’t like poetry at school either!

The unwieldily titled Poetry for People Who Think They Don’t Like Poetry! eschews any and all pretension, using language, wit and imagination to paint vivid and highly entertaining pictures with words. Do you want to hear tales of misbehaving celebrities, love against the odds, and British politeness gone too far? What about cats with internet businesses, septuagenarian sex soirées, the GLP-1 weight loss drug phenomena, or the horrors of music festivals? Well, this may just be the show for you!

Intelligent and irreverent, the poetry of James Domestic is for anyone that enjoys words and the absurdities that punctuate everyday life.

Domestic performs across the UK, has supported the likes of Luke Wright, Mark Grist, and Attila the Stockbroker and has been compared to John Cooper Clarke, Ivor Cutler, Spike Milligan, and Benjamin Zephaniah. He's performed on BBC radio and TV.

“James’s subversive use of rhyme and rhythm is wonderfully surreal” (Fiona Clark, Suffolk Poetry Society)

“James is profound, James is belly laughs; he’s got the lot” (Andy Riley, BAFTA and Emmy winning writer on Big Train, Smack the Pony, Veep, Black Books etc.)

“Hard-hitting words, delivered with wit and wicked humour. One of the pillars of the modern poetry scene” (Alex Tyler, Peterborough Poet Laureate)

“Integrity, compassion and guts” (Steve Ignorant, Crass etc,)

“James' poetry sharply focuses in on the raw ridiculous truth of the world that is right in front of us all.” (Scott Coe, former Stamford Poet Laureate)

“Argh poetry! Tweed-garbed toffs waffling about moorhens? Nah! Funny and fierce words fighting in a sack!” (The Shend, musician, actor, absurdist, and Cravat)

“Words that bite, belch, and bleed in their brilliance” (Mark
